MR. SMOLETTE ADETOYESE SHITTU-ALAMU - CURRICULUM VITAE

 


 

 

 

 

   

Smolette Adetoyese Shittu–Alamu is a veteran broadcast journalist with over three decades of experience in the industry. He is a product of Ghana Television Training School Accra, Ghana and served as Staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation GBC-TV between 1975 and 1978. He was a production assistant in the entertainment unit of GBC-TV. He returned home to Nigeria in 1978 and later joined Radio        O-Y-O, Ibadan as an announcer/disc jockey. It was in those days that the pet-name “The Alamu-Mann” reigned and ruled the airwaves. Smolette the Alamu-Mann as fans called him was a vibrant music presenter on Radio O-Y-O AM & FM in those days.

Shittu-Alamu is a 1983 product of the nation’s Premier University, the University of Ibadan. He holds the Master Degree in International Relations of Obafemi Awolowo University (1997).

He had a spell in teaching after University education and served as classroom teacher at Oyemekun Grammar School Akure, Community Grammar School Iwoye, Ede and Oba Akinbiyi High School I, Mokola Ibadan.

In those active teaching days 1984 – 1988 he served as freelance presenter at the educational service of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, the Ondo State Radio Vision Corporation Akure and the Radio Nigeria Akure.

He returned to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State BCOS Ibadan as the station’s sports editor in 1989.

Before then he wrote the weekly sports column “Frank Talk with Eddie Sanders” for more than five years in the Sporting Tribune (a weekly on the Nigerian Tribune Stable).

In 1991 following the state creation exercise Shittu-Alamu was redeployed to Osun State Broadcasting Corporation OSBC.

In those early years he produced and presented the early morning break fast show “Good Morning” on the New Radio Station.

When the Television Arm of OSBC was established on 27th August 1992 he became a pioneer staff of the new TV station and combined his job there with the presentation of “Good Morning” on Radio.

Shittu-Alamu was pioneer chairman of Osun State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for four years (1992-1996) and a virile member, full council of SWAN for that  period. Two times he was appointed electoral commissioner for the SWAN national elections in 1994 and in 1999.

“Smolette the Alamu-Mann” was secretary, Osun State Council of the NUJ 1994 – 1996 and so member national executive council of the NUJ for that period. He is a veteran of NUJ politics where he has functioned since 1990 up to date.

He has in the last 30 years risen from the lower rungs of the broadcast ladder to where he is today as Director of Radio Service. Adetoyese Shittu Alamu is a celebrated public speaker and has traversed the vastness of the country as Master of Ceremonies at many public functions. He is author of two books. “Situational Public Speaking; a hand book for public speakers” (2001) and Son of Old Age; a biography on Moses Adetoyese Ojo.”

The OSBC Director Radio is an accomplished writer who has many conference and seminar papers to his credit.

He is a multiple award winner. His many laurels include the Rotary Club Osogbo Service Award 2004; the NUJ B Zone Award for service; Osun State Merit Award 2007.

Shittu-Alamu is a family man and father of Temidayo, Temitope Temiloluwa and Temilade, a team he fondly calls “the Temi Quartet”.

He is a spirit-filled Christian and has been so since 1985. The personal motto of this veteran broadcaster and winters is TO STRIVE TO SEEK TO FIND AND NOT TO YIELD.

Born 28th December 1952, Adetoyese Shittu-Alamu hails from Isale Osun in Osogbo, capital of Osun State. The words he places emphasis on are humility, hard work, creativity and integrity.

He does not joke with these in the discharge of his private, professional and official duties.
